Dr. Amie Doughtery is the founder of Milestones at Play Physical Therapy & Wellness and currently provides in-home, clinic based, and virtual pediatric physical therapy and wellness for families in Dallas, TX.
Originally from Georgia, Dr. Amie spent her younger years practicing gymnastics or volunteering for the Special Olympics with her older brother and family. She moved to Texas for college and attended Texas Woman’s University (TWU) where she was a member of TWU’s gymnastics team — go Pioneers! She studied Kinesiology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and continued her studies at TWU in Dallas, ultimately earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012.
Dr. Amie has over a decade of pediatric home health experience helping kids gain independence and reach their fullest potential. She has worked with families and children ranging from 0-18 years of age with a wide variety of gross motor impairments from developmental delay to medically complex orthopedic, neurological, and genetic diagnoses. Dr. Amie is trained to positioning techniques to treat torticollis/plagiocephaly (flat head) to avoid a cranial-orthosis or helmet and is level A certified with Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI). Additionally, she has received training on neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) handling/facilitation techniques and kinesotaping and strapping techniques specifically for pediatrics. Her treatment sessions are skilled, play-based, and family-centered, utilizing a variety of tools and hands-on techniques to promote independent gross motor development through play.
As a family of 5 — her husband, one kiddo, and two fur babies — they enjoy outdoor adventures, travel, and family bike rides. When not working you can find her in “Mom Mode” or doing handstands around the world.
Dr. Amie loves teaching and sharing her expertise and knowledge gained over the years with families, both as a mom, therapist, and sibling of someone with special needs. She is results-oriented and passionate about early intervention and addressing caregiver concerns head on while providing quality services. As an out of the box thinker, she goes above and beyond to ensure her client’s success by utilizing all the tools in her “therapy toolbox”. It is her goal to set every child and family up for gross motor success.
Dr. Amie created Milestones At Play to fill in the gaps between therapy models, to provide quality and individualized physical therapy without limitations, and to help each child be their unique self.
